Tigran Matoulyan

An aesthetic passion towards ornamentation creating artworks that might have been part of the world of Scheherazade

Tigran Matoulyan- Artist

The intricate shapes, stylized portraits, vivid patterns, and highly decorative nature of Tigran Matoulyan’s paintings show clearly that the artist’s inspiration rises from the East. The aesthetic passion of Matoulyan towards ornamentation recalls Byzantine mosaics, Armenian and Persian carpets, Indian printed cloth, and Slavic jeweled arts, all depicted in wine-rich hues.

This is a style of art that might have been part of the exotic world of Scheherazade.

Tigran Matoulyan, born in 1960, studied at the Art Studio, and graduated from P. Terlemezian College of Painting in 1982. From 1982-1984, he studied at Art College Graphics in Riga, Latvia. His work has been exhibited in Rome, Paris, Montreal, Toronto, Yerevan and Beirut. Exhibitions in which he has participated include “France in Armenian Artists’ Eyes” and the 16tth “Lantern of the East” International Art Festival.
