Seyran Gasparyan

A mix of ideas and emotions from which dreamlike images emerge

Seyran Gasparyan- Artist

Whimsical scenes, some drawn from mythology, some based on Armenian village life, form the artistic terrain of Seyran Gasparyan. In his dreamlike paintings, transcendent light pierces a veil of color, and figures both of the earth and the otherworldly gradually emerge.

Born in 1956 in the Akhuryan region of Armenia, Gasparyan graduated from P. Terlemezian Art College, where he is now a member of the faculty. He is a graduate also of the Yerevan Theatrical and Art Institute, and a member of the Painters’ Union of Armenia and Momik Cultural Union.

Gasparyan’s works have been exhibited widely, in Sydney, Copenhagen, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Antwerp, Leipzig, Warsaw, Gdansk, Belgrade and Kiev.

“If you don’t have an idea, thought, feeling, you better not take brush in your hand,” Seyran Gasparyan declares. “You cannot do anything, the image will be muted, general, and nobody will find in it that without which there is no true art. But if this mud—this mix of thoughts and emotions—is present, the imaging comes by itself.”
