Avetik Alaverdyan
Magical images are created from dreams and fantasies blending Armenian and European traditions
Visions, dreams and imaginary images combine in the paintings of Avetik Alaverdyan. In one, figures emerge from a post-apocalyptic landscape burning with fierce, brilliant colors. In another, a magical cityscape is revealed in jewel tones, as in a child’s fantasy. Through Alaverdyan’s bold brush strokes, reality is transformed and acquires a profound significance.
Avetik Alaverdyan, born in 1954 in Yeghvard, Armenia, graduated from Yerevan Theatrical and Art Institute and P. Terlemezian Art College, and his art reflects both Armenian and European traditions.
